With more than 30 years of commercial real estate credit experience, Steven has held several prominent leadership positions across the industry. Earlier in his career, Steven spent nearly two decades at J.P. Morgan where he simultaneously ran their commercial real estate in the commercial bank and mortgage-backed securities group in the investment bank. Steven’s focus at JP Morgan was leading loan origination and capital markets. In this capacity, he originated everything from construction loans to permanent financing to large go-private CMBS and SASB deals for the bank’s clients. He was intimately involved in structuring and executing CMBS, CDO and CLO transactions as well as warehouse lending facilities.
At Torchlight Investors, Steven ran Acquisitions, Originations and Special Servicing. In this capacity he was responsible for originating bridge loans and subordinate debt, acquiring CMBS b-pieces and other securities as well as defaulted loans. As the Head of Special Servicing, Steven was responsible for setting and executing loan resolutions strategies and negotiating servicing transfers with other Special Servicers.
Most recently, Steven served as Managing Director and Co-Head of H.I.G. Real Estate Credit, U.S. In this role, Steven was principally responsible for originating bridge loans and subordinate debt as well as acquiring defaulted loans and distressed CMBS bonds. At H.I.G., Steven was also responsible for business plan execution for all originated and acquired investments. Lastly, Steven managed the business’s balance sheet including warehouse lines and debt placed syndication partners.
